On August 10, 1977, the NYPD arrested Berkowitz for the "son of Sam" murders that had terrorized New York City for more than 13 months. Berkowitz confessed to being a lone murderer-one who had carried out 8 senseless shootings with a .44 caliber bulldog revolver. The case was officially closed. Journalist Maury Terry was suspicious of Berkowitz's confession, convinced as he gathered corroboration evidence throughout the years, that Berkowitz did no act alone. In this investigation story, first published in 1987, Terry details the chilling events, proving that Berkowitz was an affiliate of -and trigger man for -a Satanic cult know as the Process Church of the Final Judgement, a far-reaching organization that is connected to other ritual slayings across the country. Updated with Berkowitz's recent confirmations from his prison cell, Terry untangles the web of information and shocking extent of the Process Church's activities. Includes black-and-white photographs.

For 13 months, from July, 1976 to August, 1977, New York City was terrorized and mesmerized by a serial killer know as the son of Sam. In that time, the killer shot to death six people, five of them your women, and wounded seven others. He fired a total of 31 bullets in eight separate attacks. He struck at random, often on weekends, searching out your couples in lovers' lanes. In each shooting he used a .44-cal. revolver, which earned him his first moniker. He was the "44-caliber killer."

The murders emptied the city's normally crowded summer make-out spots as teenagers became afraid to drive down darkened streets. Police officers on alert harassed any young couples they found, hoping they'd drive home and watch TV. Because the first shootings which terrorized New York City during 1976-77. Abrahamsen, an 81 year old psychiatrist and author of The Murdering Mind(BRD 1974) testified that Berkowitz's original claim that he was ordered to kill young women by 'demons' controlled by a neighbour--was a phony and that he was sane. Over the next 4 years, Son of Sam cooperated with the author in revealing his life story.

I view David Berkowitz as someone with many problems and he tries to disguise them y saying whatever it is that he thinks might work for him to get of the hook. David is a social misfit and does not belong out in society because he cannot function in it. If he was still out and running in the streets of New York City, the killings would still continue. Therefore, the criminal Justice system is doing our society a tremendous favor by keeping him locked up behind bars.

"Son of Sam" seemed to be socially retarded and just had deep psychological problems stemming all the way back to childhood. If he had a better family life he might have been a productive member of society and not been involved in all the unnecessary murders.

The first main clue that showed there was a serial killer on the loose who admitted to the murders, was a letter that David Berkowitz AKA the "son of Sam" wrote to the Captain on the N.Y Police task force who was assigned to this case. Captain Joseph Borrelli of the N.Y Police Department was one of the key members of the Omega Group. Operation Omega was the task force headed y Deputy Inspector Timothy Dowd to find the psycho who was killing women in various parts of the city with a .44 caliber handgun.

The ".44 Caliber Killer" was getting a great deal of press Borrelli's name had appeared frequently. Now on April 17, 1977, he was looking at a letter addressed to him that had been left at the scene of the latest in this series of murders: With mispellings, it read:

"Dear Captain Joseph Borrelli, I am deeply hurtby your calling me a wemon hater. I am no. But I am a monster. I am the "son of Sam." I am a little brat. When father Sam gets drunk he gets mean. He beats his family. Sometimes he ties me up to the back of the house. Other times he locks me in the garage. Sam loves to drink blood. 'Go out and kill,' commands father Sam. 'Behind out house some rest. Mostly young-raped and slaughtered-thier blood drained-just bones now. Papa Sam keeps me locked n the attic too. I can't get out but I look out the attic window and watch the world go by. I feel like an outsider. I am on a different wavelength then everybody else--programmed too kill. Hoewver, to stop me you must kill me. Attention all police: Shoot me first--shoot to kill or else keep out of my way or you will die! Papa Sam is old now. He needs some blood to preserve his youth. He has had too many heart attacks. 'Ugh, me hoot, it hurts, sonny boy. 'I miss my pretty princess most of all. She's resting in our ladies house. But I'll see her soon. Iam the 'Monster:--'Beelzebub'--the chubby behemouth. I love to hunt. Prowling the streets looking for fair game--tasty meat. The wemon of Queens are prettyist of all. It must be the water they drink. I live for the hunt--my life. Blood for papa. Mr. Borrelli, sir, I don't want to kill anymore. No sur, no more but I must, 'honour thy father. 'I want to make love to the world. I love people. I don't belong on earth Return me to the yahoos. To the people of Queens, I love you. And I want to wish all of you eternal peace."

There were plenty of signs that Mr. Berkowitz was disturbed and need help badly. His name goes down in history as one of the most infamous serial killer of our times.
